LEGO 7155 - Trade Federation AAT

The Trade Federation Armored Assault Tank (AAT) comprised a significant portion of the Trade Federation's ground forces and appeared in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace where it was deployed at the Battle of Naboo as well as several Clone Wars episodes.

This set was obtained through the secondary market as it was first released in 2000 and is long out of production. Back then, it cost a mere US$20 for 158 pieces. Nonetheless, this is well-designed with a strong resemblance to the film version. Most of the bricks are tan and art is printed on the bricks rather than using decals.

It comes with two battle droid mini-figures, although most collectors would have wished for more. Excellent playability with a turret that swivels (to some extent), cannons that move up and down as well as hatches that open to store the droids.

Lego 7929 - The Battle of Naboo

I am pleasantly surprised by how good this set is. This was part of the early 2011 line-up of Lego Star Wars releases and I had purchased most of this lot in the Netherlands when I was on vacation. It worked out to be slightly cheaper than Singapore local retail prices.

It consists of a Trade Federation troop carrier containing ten battle droids (two pilots and eight battle droids) and two Gungans. If it was meant to depict the Battle of Naboo, then the Gungans are way outnumbered! The Federation troop carrier measures 25cm long, 7cm wide and 10cm tall, with two racks of battle droids. Two Gungan mini-figures are included with this set - the much-maligned Jar Jar Binks and a Gungan warrior with a great looking energy shield. The head sculpts are duo-toned, unlike the monochrome head sculpts from the old Gungan mini-figures.

Lego 7121 - Naboo Swamp

This is just a simple set containing 81 pieces. Even though it was based on the worst Star Wars movie of the lot (The Phantom Menace) and doesn't come with a lot of pieces, there are still some noteworthy bits going for it:

Firstly, it comes with 2 Single Trooper Aerial Platforms (STAPs) with 2 battle droids. These were the early days when the battle droid minifigures came with the 1x2 backplate, which they don't anymore with the new Lego Star Wars sets. I also love the transparent stands for the STAPs, though the newer STAP designs from Lego improve these early releases by leaps and bounds.

I've never had a clam brick before and frankly, I am quite impressed with the vines.

Best bit would be the Qui-Gon Jinn and Jar Jar Binks minifigures. Say what you want about those characters, but they are relatively rare in appearances within Lego sets.
